Course Aim: Offshore milebuilding

This course is designed to be a fun cruise where it will be possible to undergo some mile building. The skipper, in consultation with the crew, will plan the cruise to gain the best possible advantage from the expected weather conditions during the week.

The first day of the course may be spent familiarising the crew with the yacht and learning the basic essentials of boat and sail handling before leaving sheltered water. The course does not follow an RYA training syllabus, but if you are involved with the scheme, bring your G15 logbook and the skipper will complete any appropriate sections at the end of the week.

The sailing area will include the coastline of Wales, the Isle of Man, Scotland and the Inner Hebrides or South towards Cork or Kinsale depending upon weather conditions.

During the seven days, the course will probably cover over 250 miles and spend at least one night at sea. Please note that all harbour fees will be covered by Plas Menai.

If you are looking to add some extra miles to your logbook or just gain valuable sailing experience in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere and visiting some new sailing waters, this seven day cruise will be an excellent experience.

The Yacht

The yacht you will be staying onboard, is commercially coded by RYA/MCA as category 2 compliant, which is 60 miles from a safe haven and is able to carry 6 people including the Skipper. Facilities include on-board heating, hot water and a fridge and it is equipped with Radar and GPS. The yacht has a big boat feel, wheel steering and a powerful mast head rig.

Meals Onboard

The yacht will be stocked for at least three meals a day, including snacks and drinks. If you wish to, you may bring a bottle of something to enjoy in the evenings, when you are moored up. We can cater for any special dietary requirements but please inform our bookings team before arrival, to ensure that the correct food is taken on board.

Kit and Clothing

Plas Menai will provide waterproofs and lifejackets, however you are very welcome to bring your own if you wish.
