RYA Coastal Skipper
Duration: 5 Days
Course Aim: RYA Coastal Skipper (course completion certificate)
Minimum Standard: 15 days including 8 night hours; A good theoretical knowledge at least to Day Skipper standard, but preferably to Coastal Skipper/Offshore Theory level.
This course is designed for competent and experienced Day Skippers who wish to move on to more extended cruising. The course will concentrate on crew management, emergency situations, pilotage, offshore passage making, weather interpretation and tidal calculations.
The Yachtmaster Coastal practical course completion certificate is awarded after successful completion of the course and achieving the practical standards found in the cruising logbook G15.
Conditions allowing, an offshore passage will be attempted to either Ireland or Isle of Man, otherwise the North Wales coastline, Anglesey and the Llýn Peninsula will constitute the sailing area. Please note that all harbour fees will be covered by Plas Menai.
If you have considerable knowledge of sailing and navigation and are looking to develop advanced skippering techniques, this course will be suitable for you. It is a satisfying but intensive week, including skippered passages in a variety of situations.

The Yacht
The yacht you will be staying onboard, is commercially coded by RYA/MCA as category 2 compliant, which is 60 miles from a safe haven and is able to carry 6 people including the Skipper. Facilities include on-board heating, hot water and a fridge and it is equipped with Radar and GPS. The yacht has a big boat feel, wheel steering and a powerful mast head rig.
Meals Onboard
The yacht will be stocked for at least three meals a day, including snacks and drinks. If you wish to, you may bring a bottle of something to enjoy in the evenings, when you are moored up. We can cater for any special dietary requirements but please inform our bookings team before arrival, to ensure that the correct food is taken on board.
Kit and Clothing
Plas Menai will provide waterproofs and lifejackets, however you are very welcome to bring your own if you wish.
2012 Low Season Pricing
Low season rates apply between 01 Jan - 21 April 2012 and 23 September to 31 December 2012. If you are booking a course within this period the reduced rate will be applied to your course during the booking process.
