Yachtmaster Preparation

Course Aim: Brush up of skills in preparation of taking the Yachtmaster Coastal/Offshore Exam

Minimum Standard: It is expected that your theoretical and practical knowledge will be up to the syllabus for Yachtmaster Coastal/Offshore as stated in your cruising logbook (G15)

This is an intensive advanced level course for those wishing to hone their skills before taking a Yachtmaster Coastal /Offshore RYA/MCA Certificate of Competence. We will concentrate on pilotage, night navigation, close quarter manoeuvring under power and sails, theory and any other part of the syllabus that you want to brush up on.

At the end of the week your instructor will provide you with an action plan for completion prior to attending an examination where necessary.

The sailing area will include the North Wales coastline, Anglesey and the Llŷn Peninsula depending upon weather conditions. Please note that all harbour fees will be covered by Plas Menai.

The Yacht

The yacht you will be staying onboard, is commercially coded by RYA/MCA as category 2 compliant, which is 60 miles from a safe haven and is able to carry 6 people including the Skipper. Facilities include on-board heating, hot water and a fridge and it is equipped with Radar and GPS. The yacht has a big boat feel, wheel steering and a powerful mast head rig.

Meals Onboard

The yacht will be stocked for at least three meals a day, including snacks and drinks. If you wish to, you may bring a bottle of something to enjoy in the evenings, when you are moored up. We can cater for any special dietary requirements but please inform our bookings team before arrival, to ensure that the correct food is taken on board.

Kit and Clothing

Plas Menai will provide waterproofs and lifejackets, however you are very welcome to bring your own if you wish.

2012 Low Season Pricing

Low season rates apply between 01 Jan - 21 April 2012 and 23 September to 31 December 2012. If you are booking a course within this period the reduced rate will be applied to your course during the booking process.
