Pre-entry Weekend

Course Aim: Pre-entry Test & Powerboat Level 2 Assessment
Minimum Standard: You should be at the standard for Pre-entry and Powerboat level 2 as outlined in G14 and G20
This weekend programme is designed as a 'brush-up' and assessment for those at the standard of pre-entry and powerboat level 2 but who have not yet been assessed.
We won't be able to go back to basics during this weekend, so please make sure you're familiar with the requirements laid out in the RYA handbook G14, and the RYA powerboat logbook G20.
The outline for the pre-entry assessment can be found in the RYA publication G14 and the powerboat award in G20. The exact timetable for the weekend has to remain flexible as we require a suitable wind strength for you to demonstrate the pre-entry test manoeuvres. Where possible though we try to do the pre-entry test on Saturday and the powerboating on Sunday.
We do recommend that candidates try their hand at rudderless or tethered rudder sailing prior to the weekend as time constraints mean there is limited coaching time available in order to assess all the candidates.
If you are aiming to take a RYA Dinghy Instructor course you must complete this practical sailing and powerboating test. You should have a suitable level of sailing and powerboating skills, ideally on tidal waters, prior to taking this assessment course.
Certification: The RYA National Powerboat (Level 2) certificate requires a passport photograph. Please remember to bring a photograph with you, otherwise we will not be able to issue your certificate.
Kit and Clothing
Plas Menai provides all necessary kit, equipment and personal protective clothing including wetsuits, buoyancy aids, cagoules and waterproofs, however you are very welcome to bring your own if you wish
