RYA Dinghy Instructor Package

In order to become a dinghy instructor, candidates first need to fulfil a number of pre-entry requirements This great value for money nine day package provides all the elements and includes the VHF certificate which must be held by anyone wanting to progress to becoming a Senior Instructor.

The nine day package consists of the following:

  • Pre-entry Test
  • Powerboat level 2 Assessment
  • RYA First Aid
  • VHF
  • RYA Dinghy Instructor

Pre-entry and Powerboat Level 2 (Day 1-2)

These two days are designed for people who need assessing for the Powerboat Level 2 award and the Dinghy pre-entry test. As we are not able to go back over the basics, you need to be aware of the requirements for both of these awards and ensure you are up to the standard before arriving. The outline for the pre-entry assessment can be found in the RYA publication G14 and the powerboat award in G20.

Certification: The RYA National Powerboat (Level 2) certificate requires a passport photograph. Please remember to bring a photograph with you, otherwise we will not be able to issue your certificate.

 

RYA Dinghy Instructor (Day 3-7)

This five day course covers all aspects of teaching beginners and improvers to sail . During the week you wil lbe taught the RYA’s teaching framework known as ‘The method’ which encompasses single and double handed sailing. The week is very intense and will include some evening sessions.

 

RYA First Aid and VHF Short Range Radio Certificate (Day 8-9)

The RYA First Aid course has an emphasis on first aid afloat, with much of the teaching targetted at dealing with casualties in a marine envirnoment. The course will cover the following areas, dealing with injuries, illness, unconsciousness, hypothermia, resuscitation and CPR and helicopter rescue.

This intensive day course covers all aspects of using VHF, including the most up-to-date changes of the Global Martitime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). Many centres use VHF and it is regarded as an important piece of safety equipment on board a safety boat.

Please note: Your VHF licence requires a passport photograph. There is also an £30.00 RYA admin fee for the issuing of your licence. (Please bring with you a passport photo and a cheque payable to the RYA).

 

RYA Membership

It is not a requirement for Dinghy Instructors to be personal members of the RYA, however, non-members incur an administration fee (£40.00) for the issue of their instructor certificate. Join the RYA

Kit and Clothing

Plas Menai provides all necessary kit, equipment and personal protective clothing including wetsuits, buoyancy aids, cagoules and waterproofs, however you are very welcome to bring your own if you wish

 

PLEASE NOTE

This course is Non-Residential. If you would like to book as a resident, please add the nine night residential package under ‘Optional Extras’ when booking. The residential package includes nine nights’ accommodation and full board for the duration of your stay.
