RYA Senior Instructor
Duration: 4 Days
Course Aim: RYA Senior Instructor
Minimum Standard; See Eligibilty and Pre-entry requirements outlined below
This course marks the transition from managing your own boat to that of being a 'fleet manager'. The senior instructor course concentrates primarily on on-the-water issues and is practically orientated.
The course includes supervising instructors under your control, practical teaching afloat, fleet management, running shore-based sessions, customer liaison and group discussions under the guidance of one of our very experienced RYA dinghy coach-assessors.
Continuous assessment (in a relaxed atmosphere) is based on your ability to plan, organise and run practical sessions, construct course programmes, manage instructors under your supervision and on your input to shore-based sessions.
With a combination of enthusiastic and effective teaching, suitable and up-to-date equipment and a number of appropriate locations close to the Centre, we are sure that you will have an enjoyable and productive course.
The centre currently has a fleet consisting of; Toppers, Lasers, Picos, Laser Stratos, RS400s, RS Vision, RS 800, RS Vareo, RS200, Laser 2000, Laser Vago, Laser4000, J80s Dart 16s and a Twincat. Any of these boats may be used at some stage of your course if they are required.
During the four days there is quite a considerable amount of material that needs to be covered so some evening work will be required.
Eligibility: You must fully meet the RYA's pre-course criteria (see handbook G14) and include a written recommendation from the principal of a teaching centre, evidence of two seasons intermittent sailing instruction or one year full-time, a current first aid award and the RYA Safety Boat qualification. A pre-course workbook available from the RYA website or Plas Menai needs to be completed before the course.
