Advanced Sea Kayak

Duration: 5 Days

Course Aim: BCU 3 Star Sea training with an action plan for further development. (possible 3 Star Sea assessment at the end of the week)

Minimum Standard: At least 10 coached days paddling or a comfortable grade 2 paddler. The ability to roll would be useful. If you are unsure if you have the sufficient skills for this course please contact the centre and talk to one of our instructors.

Throughout this week, the emphasis is on improved technique and boathandling in sea kayaks, leading to the development of these skills in increasingly challenging conditions.

The coastline of North Wales and Anglesey offers a wealth of different paddling options with headlands and sea cliffs, tide races, over-falls and the Swellies to name a few.

We will use our pool to improve rolling and run practical workshops on safety and rescue skills, before putting all to the test outside. Together with tidal planning and practical navigation you will leave the course with an enhanced skill level and hopefully lots of new tools to deal with the challenges that sea kayaking has to offer.

Plas Menai provides all necessary kit, equipment and personal protective clothing including wetsuits, buoyancy aids, cagoules, helmets, spraydecks etc, however you are very welcome to bring your own if you wish.
