Learn to Kayak
Duration: 5 Days
Course Aim: BCU 1 Star with some 2* training
Minimum Standard: None
The aim is to give you a safe and enjoyable introduction to paddlesport with the emphasis on good coaching to develop your confidence and ability so that you will be hooked on paddling in its many forms by the end of the course.
During the week there will be pool sessions to help you quickly gain your confidence and basic skills. We will use a selection of venues as you develop your boat handling skills. We learn in plastic, general purpose kayaks, but a couple of days could well be spent in sea kayaks to give you an introduction to this popular side of the sport.
The British Canoe Union (BCU) has a star system of performance awards which will be explained to you if you wish. If you attend the five day course you should get your 1 Star with some training for the 2 Star.
Our high staff-to-student ratios ensure you get the most out of your time with us, benefitting from our modern, flexible teaching approach to learn new skills and fine tune your paddling. Our instructors are highly qualified, have extensive experience and, most importantly, are eager to help introduce you to this popular sport.
This course is ideal for those with little or no previous paddling experience. It is also the perfect refresher course for anyone who has been away from the sport for a long time.
As no two courses are ever quite the same, if you have been on this course a while ago but have not done any paddling in-between, we advise that you re-book on to this course before progressing to a higher level course.
