Sea Kayak Improver Weekend

Duration: 2 Days

Course Aim: Kayak Skills equivalent to BCU 2 Star

Minimum Standard: at least 5 coached days paddling i.e. Completed a 5 day learn to kayak or learn to sea kayak type course. Completed 3 weekend learn to kayak or learn to sea kayak type courses. If you are unsure if you have the sufficient skills for this course please contact the centre and talk to one of our instructors.

This course provides the opportunity to discover the great variety and subtle pleasures of sea kayaking, while exploring the superb coastlines of Anglesey and the Llŷn Peninsula.

During weekend course, the emphasis is on building upon your existing kayaking skills to develop confident boat handling in wind and waves. Coaching sessions include improved forward paddling, safety and rescue skills, simple navigation, tidal and weather considerations, trip planning and possibly some surfing skills.

By the end of the course, you should have developed a good understanding of safe and enjoyable sea kayaking, and feel more self sufficient in your own paddling activities and have covered all the kayak skills of the BCU 2 star award.

Please note: this course is not suitable of you are a beginner paddler.

Kit and Clothing

Plas Menai provides all necessary kit, equipment and personal protective clothing including wetsuits, buoyancy aids, cagoules, helmets, spraydecks etc, however you are very welcome to bring your own if you wish.

 

PLEASE NOTE

This course is Non-Residential. If you would like to book as a resident, please add the five night residential package under ‘Optional Extras’ when booking. The residential package includes five nights’ accommodation and full board for the duration of your stay.
