Kayak Coastcraft

Duration: 2 Days

Minimum Standard: You must be comfortable flat water paddler, able to paddle for at least four hours per day.

Discover the skills and techniques of sea kayak ‘coastcraft’ on this adventurous weekend. During the weekend you will learning how to fish from sit on top kayaks specifically designed for the task. You will be taught how to forage for fruits of the sea such as mussles, cockles, razor clams, prawns and samphire all of which can acompany your catch of sea bass, mackerel or even lobster – depending upon how lucky you have been during the day!

You will be shown fire lighting techniques and be able to eat your catch of the day over a camp fire before heading back to the centre (weather permitting).

During the weekend you will also cover issues such as planning a trip, navigiation, safety procedures, minimal impact camping, tidal awareness, the environment and weather considerations.

The weekend is ideal if you are planning an expedition and want to learn some basic ‘coast craft’ techniques.

You will return to the centre each evening

Kit and Clothing

Plas Menai provides all necessary kit, equipment and personal protective clothing including wetsuits, buoyancy aids, cagoules and helmets, however you are very welcome to bring your own if you wish.

 

PLEASE NOTE

This course is Non-Residential. If you would like to book as a resident, please add the two day residential package under ‘Optional Extras’ when booking. The residential package includes two nights’ accommodation and full board for the duration of your stay.
