Try a Boat Weekend
Duration: 2 Days
Minimum Standard: You should be able to sail comfortably around a triangluar course in force 2-3 winds
This weekend is ideal for experienced sailors who want to try out some different boats and have the opportunity to sail in a tidal location.
Plas Menai has an extensive range of dinghies from Optimists right through to the RS 800 as well as Dart 16’s and a Twincat catamaran with twin trapeze and an asymmetric spinnaker. For those wanting to try out their skills on bigger boats we have four J80 keelboats, perfect for undertaking some match racing on Sunday afternoon.
There are no fixed plans for the weekend, with the programme of sailing sessions being developed by the group, assisted by a member of our instructional team. The sessions will be developed based on the weather forecast, tidal conditions, experience of the group and type of boats that would like to be sailed.
The instructor will show you how to rig unfamilar dinghies, provide safety cover for the sailing sessions and be on hand to offer coaching tips to improve everybodies sailing. For those of you who have not sailed in tidal conditions short sessions will be held and debriefed to ensure you get the most out of the weekend.
Plas Menai is a demo centre for both RS and Laser and should you demo a boat here and then go on to purchase a new boat frmo either RS or Laser you will be entitled to a discount. Please speak to your instructor over the weekend for more details.
Kit and Clothing
Plas Menai provides all necessary kit, equipment and personal protective clothing including wetsuits, buoyancy aids, cagoules and waterproofs, however you are very welcome to bring your own if you wish.
