RYA Safety Boat

Course Aim: RYA Safety Powerboat

Minimum Standard: RYA Powerboat Level 2; Ideally at least one seasons’ worth of powerboat driving experience; Some experience of sailing and windsurfing is also desirable but not essential.

This course is aimed at those involved in the teaching of watersports. During the weekend sessions will be run on boat handling techniques and the recovery and towing of dinghies, catamarans, windsurfers and disabled powerboats. You will also look at aspects of race management, positioning, suitabilty of craft, and communication systems.

The course is 100% training with assessment built in, which gives plenty of time for practising manouevres and correcting faults. The weekend is based on practical hands on work, you will be getting rather damp, so come prepared!

For sailing clubs and teaching establishments, this course is designed to introduce the techniques used in powerboats to provide safety cover or assisting with race management.

The RYA Safety Boat course is a pre-requisite for the RYA Senior Instructor Award

Kit and Clothing

Plas Menai supplies a range of technical equipment including waterproofs and buoyancy aids. However you are very welcome to bring your own if you wish.

 

PLEASE NOTE

This course is Non-Residential. If you would like to book as a resident, please add the two night residential package under ‘Optional Extras’ when booking. The residential package includes two nights’ accommodation and full board for the duration of your stay.
