This expedition replaces the Slate Isles trip as listed in our 2012 brochure.

A new destination for Plas Menai in 2012, the Summer Isles lie just off the west coast of Scotland near Ullapool and are a fascinating chain of small islands with interesting and varied wildlife.

This is an introduction expedition so the daily distances paddled will be around 15km. The principal aim of the trip is to provide an enjoyable sea kayaking expedition in remote and beautiful surroundings. With small tidal flows the main planning constraint will be the weather, but the area is relatively sheltered. During the trip you will look at safety issues and navigation/chart work skills and there will be the opportunity to develop BCU3 start training if you want.

We always pray to the weather gods before departure - but we’re not making any promises! What we will do is to make the very best of whatever is thrown at us.

Equipment

Plas Menai has an excellent fleet of Sea Kayak UK Explorer kayaks in a range of sizes for you to use. We also take our Double Valley Alut kayak which everybody will get a chance to use. We can supply all technical and camping equipment, as well as any outer clothing you may need.
