Course Aim: RYA Advanced Windsurfing Instructor

This five day training course has a clinic-based approach and the core content enables instructors to teach the main advanced course in the scheme. The course is designed to develop both personal sailing and coaching skills and sessions will be run on teaching activities including improved stance waterstart, carve gybe, duck gybe and bump and jump.

In addition, instructors can be assessed during the course to enable them to teach further advanced clinics in advanced carving skills and bump and jump.

As a qualified RYA Advanced Windsurfing Instructor you can teach the advanced course and all stages of the youth windsurfing scheme under the supervision of a senior instructor.

This course is intensive and will include some evening work.

Pre-entry Requirements

In order to become a RYA Advanced Windsurfing Instructor, candidates need to fulfil some pre-entry requirements as follows:

1. Minimum age 18 yrs old 

2. Hold a valid First Aid Certificate 

3. Hold the RYA National Powerboat Certificate Level 2 

4. Hold the RYA Advanced Windsurfing with waterstarting and planning carve gybe clinics

5. Evidence of 100 hours logged as an intermediate windsurfing instructor

6. Completion of pre-course work

All the above requirements are needed BEFORE attending the course. If you attend the course without the required certification, you will not have your Instructor award processed.

Windsurfing Equipment

You will need to bring with you a freecarve, freestyle or ‘bump and jump’ board 100+Ltr, for intro to waves and also a freeride board 140Ltr for flat water days. We have sails ranging from 4.5m to 7.0m, however most candidates bring their own rigs.

RYA Membership

It is not a requirement for RYA Windsurfing Instructors to be personal members of the RYA, however, non-members incur an administration fee (£40.00) for the issue of their instructor certificate. Join the RYA.

 

PLEASE NOTE

This course is Non-Residential. If you would like to book as a resident, please add the five night residential package under ‘Optional Extras’ when booking. The residential package includes five nights’ accommodation and full board for the duration of your stay.
