RYA Intermediate Windsurfing Instructor

Course Aim: RYA Intermediate Windsurfing Instructor

Once you’ve gained experience as a Start Windsurfing Instructor, the next stage is this intensive five day course. The Intermediate course and instructor training is assessed in two competencies; non- planning and planning and you will be qualified as either a non-planning or planning instructor depending upon your ability.

During the week sessions will be run on rigging and equipment, improving stance, developing tacking and gybing, rescue and safety, coaching techniques and relevant theory. You will become familiar with the FastFwd coaching mode and the teaching skills required for the intermediate course. You will have the opportunity to use the stance simulator specifically developed for use with this scheme and to see how the techniques are transferred to the water.

As a RYA Intermediate Windsurfing Instructor you are qualified to teach the Intermediate course and Youth Windsurfing Scheme under the supervision of a senior instructor.

This course is intensive and will include some evening work.

Pre-entry Requirements

Candidates need to fulfil some pre-entry requirements prior to attending the course. These are as follows:

RYA Intermediate non-planning instructor

  • Minimum age 16 yrs old
  • Start windsurfing instructor
  • Intermediate certificate plus beach starting and non-planing carve gybe clinics
  • RYA Powerboat level 2 certificate
  • Valid first aid certificate
  •  Evidence of 50 hours logged as a Start windsurfing instructor
  •  Completion of pre-course work

 RYA Intermediate Planning instructor

  • Minimum age 16 yrs old
  • Start windsurfing instructor/Intermediate non-planing Instructor
  • Advanced certificate plus water start and carve gybe clinics
  • RYA Powerboat level 2 certificate
  • Valid first aid certificate
  • Evidence of 50 hours logged as a Start windsurfing instructor
  • Completion of pre-course work

All the above requirements are needed BEFORE attending the course. If you attend the course without the required certification, you will not have your Instructor award processed.

RYA Membership

It is not a requirement for Intermediate Windsurfing Instructors to be personal members of the RYA, however, non-members incur an administration fee (£40.00) for the issue of their instructor certificate. Join the RYA

Kit and Clothing

Plas Menai provides all necessary kit, equipment and personal protective clothing including wetsuits, buoyancy aids, cagoules and waterproofs, however you are very welcome to bring your own if you wish. 

 

PLEASE NOTE

This course is Non-Residential. If you would like to book as a resident, please add the five night residential package under ‘Optional Extras’ when booking. The residential package includes five nights’ accommodation and full board for the duration of your stay.
