Course Aim: RYA Start Windsurfing Instructor

This course is the first rung of the windsurfing instructor ladder. During the week you will be taught how to run dry land simulator sessions, instruct the basics afloat and on the water, safety and group control. The week is very intensive and expect to do undertake work the evenings.

Please make yourself familiar with the windsurfing syllabus (G47) and in particular consider the theoretical elements as you may be asked to informally present them to the group. You will be working from W4a, the RYA Start Windsurfing Teaching System, so please also make yourself familiar with this prior to the course.

Pre-entry Requirements

In order to become a RYA Start Windsurfing Instructor, candidates need to fulfil some pre-entry requirements as follows: 

1. Minimum age 16 yrs old

2. Hold a valid First Aid Certificate 

3. Hold the RYA National Powerboat Certificate Level 2 

4. Hold the RYA Intermediate Non-Planing/Planing Certificate 

5. Completion of pre-course work

As the name suggests these requirements are needed BEFORE attending the course.

RYA Membership

It is not a requirement for RYA Windsurfing Instructors to be personal members of the RYA, however, non-members incur an administration fee (£40.00) for the issue of their instructor certificate. Join the RYA.

Kit and Clothing

Plas Menai provides all necessary kit, equipment and personal protective clothing including wetsuits, buoyancy aids, cagoules and waterproofs, however you are very welcome to bring your own if you wish

 

PLEASE NOTE

This course is Non-Residential. If you would like to book as a resident, please add the five night residential package under ‘Optional Extras’ when booking. The residential package includes five nights’ accommodation and full board for the duration of your stay.
