Sailing Improver (12-17ys)

Duration: 5 Days

Course Aim: RYA Youth Sailing Scheme Stage 3-4 or National Sailing Scheme level 2

Minimum Standard: RYA Stage 2-3

For those of you who have spent alot of time in single handed dinghies, this course transfers your existing skills into double handed boats.

Over the course of the week you will be introduced to double-handed sailing, looking at the roles of helm and crew and acting as both to sail around a short course. The week will also cover some basic seamanship skills such as coming alongside, picking up a mooring and man overboard as well as spending some time on racing tactics and strategies.

This week is designed to give you an all round experience of sailing in its many different forms and at some point over the week we will also try and get you sailing our catamarans, keelboats and single handers and perhaps embark upon a day sail along the Menai Strait.

This is an action-packed week with lots of variety and challenges. If you are looking to develop your all around sailing ability and knowledge in a fun and safe environment this is the week for you.

In addition, if you are thinking about becoming a Dinghy Instructor at some point in the future and want to get a feel for the different aspects of sailing that you would be expected to know and be proficient at, this course gives you a great overview.

House Parents

In the evenings our House Parents organise evening activities for everyone staying at the Centre on our youth activity courses. They supervise the children and are responsible for their safety and welfare.

Kit and Clothing

Plas Menai provides all necessary kit, equipment and personal protective clothing including wetsuits, buoyancy aids, cagoules and waterproofs, however you are very welcome to bring your own if you wish. Please bring towels and a change of footwear for on the water.

This course is Non-Residential. If you would like to book as a resident, please add the five night residential package under ‘Optional Extras’ when booking. The residential package includes five nights’ accommodation and full board for the duration of your stay.
