Spinnakers and Regatta (14-17yrs)

Course Aim: RYA Sailing with Spinnakers RYA Start Racing

Minimum Standard: Be able to handle a dinghy in force 3 winds. RYA Level 2 or equivalent experience at that standard (see G4 for information on standards)

Get ready for an exhilarating and exciting week on this five day action packed course. At the beginning of the week you will get to grips with assymetric spinnakers then you can test yourself against the fleet as you develop your racing tactics and strategies.

During the week you will be using on a variety of different dinghies and depending upon experience and ability these will include the RS Feva, Laser 2000, Laser Vago, RS200 and the RS500.

Once you are comfortable with the spinnaker you will then spend time racing around a course, learning about racing tactics and strategies, mark rounding, rig tuning and trapezing. There is a small element of theory work to be covered including the basics of weather and tides and you will also discover how to tie some of the most useful sailors’ knots. Weather conditions permitting, the week will cumulate in a sailing regatta on Friday.

House Parents

In the evenings our House Parents organise evening activities for everyone staying at the Centre on our youth activity courses. They supervise the children and are responsible for their safety and welfare.

 Kit and Clothing

Plas Menai provides all necessary kit, equipment and personal protective clothing including wetsuits, buoyancy aids, cagoules and waterproofs, however you are very welcome to bring your own if you wish. Please bring towels and a change of footwear for on the water.

This course is Non-Residential. If you would like to book as a resident, please add the five night residential package under ‘Optional Extras’ when booking. The residential package includes five nights’ accommodation and full board for the duration of your stay.
