Plas Menai is the Sport Wales National Outdoor Centre for Wales. We have been training Outdoor Instructors for over 30 years. Many have gone on to work within the industry, both in the UK and further afield, and for some of the biggest UK National Governing Bodies for Sport.

If you are looking for a personal development opportunity which could lead to a career in the Outdoor Adventurous Activity industry.  This is a paid programme that also includes an element of personal development, on the job experience and the opportunity of gaining more industry recognised qualifications.

As a member of the Instructor Development Programme you will get the opportunity of participating in a number of centre based roles.  These include assisting to run water and shore based activity programmes, centre front of house duties (reception), acting as evening and night duty officer, delivering a high level of customer service and assisting in the maintenance of the centres equipment.

Programme Hours – the programme is flexible and you will receive an allowance to cover the hours that you work.  Initially the programme will run for 6 months with the possibility of it being extended for a further 6 months if you have demonstrated the correct attitude and gained the correct qualifications.

Full board accommodation is available on-site at a preferential rate.

Instructor Development Programme

Location: Sport Wales National Outdoor Centre – Plas Menai, Caernarfon.

 

Working Hours: 

The programme is flexible and you will receive an allowance to cover the hours that you work. This is set on on an average working week of 37 hours and includes 23 hours of paid work and personal development.

Initially the programme will run for 6 months with the possibility of it being extended in line with operational need for a further 6 months if you have demonstrated the correct attitude and gained the correct qualifications.

 

Who we are:

Sport Wales is the national organisation responsible for developing and promoting sport and physical activity in Wales.  We are the main adviser on sporting matters to the Welsh Government and are responsible for distributing National Lottery funds. We aim to not only improve the level of sports participation at grassroots level but also provide our aspiring athletes with the support required to compete successfully on the world stage. 

Plas Menai is our National Outdoor Centre for Wales. We have been training Watersports Instructors for over 35 years. Many have gone on to work within the industry, both in the UK and further afield as well as some of the biggest UK National Governing Bodies for Sport.

Who you'll work with:

You will be working with some of the most experienced and talented Trainers, Coaches and Instructors working in the Industry who will act as your mentors and support you through your programme.

As part of the team, you will support and deliver a wide range of water and shore-based activities and theory courses.  Our customers come from all over the UK and further afield aged from 8-80 years old.

 

What you'll need:

We are looking for candidates who hold at least one recognised National Governing Body Instructor qualification in the outdoor adventurous sport field,

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable, although not essential.
