Get back in the pool

Our swimming pool is open!

We have had to make several major operational changes  to the way that we operate to ensure that we are operating in a Covid Secure manner and in line with Welsh Government Legislation, National Governing Body, Industry regulations and best practice.

All sessions must be pre-booked and pre-paid, more information and to book your session can be found below.

Changing Rooms

Our changing rooms will not be in use during this period, we are therefore asking all swimmers to come “Beach Ready”

What do we mean by Beach Ready:

  • Please shower at home before your swim
  • Come ready changed(costume under clothing)
  • Changing rooms & showers not available after swimming
  • Bring a dry robe or similar to go home in

Swimmers guidelines

  • Storage boxes will be available on poolside to keep towels, clothing and car keys, please avoid brining valuables such as purses, wallets and mobile phones into the building.  Bring you own box or bucket if possible
  • Please remove any jewellery before arriving for your session.
  • If you swim in a swim cap, put it on before you arrive to save time
  • There are no outdoor shoes permitted on poolside.  Please arrive in crocs, flip flops or sliders that are clean
  • Swimmers should bring their own equipment that should not be shared
  • ALL swimmers regardless of age will adhere to the two-metre distance to anyone outside of their bubble whilst both in and out of the water
  • Part of our risk assessment to keep everyone safe is to minimise the risk of rescues.  At this time, we need swimmers to be capable for the session.  If in doubt, please ask the lifeguard for an outside lane so you can stop at the side without needing rescue.
  • If you do require assistance, please hold on to the side or rope and raise your hands.  The lifeguards have received training on how to give assistance from a distance.
  • The First Aid policy at the centre is for first aider to maintain distance wherever possible and to encourage the casualty or member of their bubble to “self-help” as much as possible, where appropriate.  Our first aid station does have all required PPE if we are required to break social distancing to give First aid and in the event of needing CPR we will be using pocket masks.
  • For the junior lessons we ask for a parent/guardian to stay in the car onsite.  No spectators are permitted on the poolside for these sessions.
  • Only one spectator per family will be permitted in the viewing gallery and must adhere to social distancing and one way system.  The spectator is only allowed if they are required to help with family members quick prepping to swim and drying to leave.  We would prefer no spectators if at all possible but do understand some help may be required on the family sessions.
  • Swimmers must not remove their swimwear on poolside, dry off quickly and put clothes/robe over the top

To keep up to date with pool opening and maintenance, please join the Plas Menai Swimmers group.

Additional information about the re-opening of our pool

Health & Safety

Maintaining the Health, Safety and Welfare of our staff and customers is of paramount importance. The centre has numerous risk assessments in place and a specific one for the pool has been established to take into account the requirements of a Covid Secure operation. We have secured the Welsh Government Good to Go accreditation and the AA Covid Confident status.

We have maintained the swimming pool throughout the closure and our pool water meets the current industry guidance for both Free Chlorine & PH. The water has also been sent for monthly Public Health microbiology testing. We can therefore state with confidence that Covid-19 would not be transmissible through the swimming pool water.
Air circulation in the pool hall also complies with the current industry standards and the system was serviced in July by an external contractor.

Cleaning

We have adopted additional cleaning measures and key touch points and toilets will be cleaned on a regular basis throughout the day, we are also using “XtraProtect” a revolutionary 3 step sanitising, cleaning and fogging process.

Social Distancing
We will be asking all customers to respect the current Welsh Government Legislation and to maintain the 2m Social Distancing requirement that is in force.

Washing Your Hands
There are numerous hand washing/sanitising points on your route to and from the pool. Please make use of these facilities on a regular basis.

Track & Trace
Containing outbreaks early is crucial to reduce the spread of COVID-19, protect the NHS and save lives. To do this we offer you the option to provide us with your name, contact number and details of your visit through our online booking system.
