Learn to sail on this weekend introduction to dinghy sailing. This weekend will be spent predominantly in double handed dinghies but you may have the opportunity to try out a single handed dinghy depending upon the overall ability of the group and the prevailing weather conditions. Over the weekend we aim to cover the following;
RYA Start Sailing (Level 1): This course introduces you to the fundamentals of sailing, including sailing up, down and across the wind, turning the boat and what to do in the event of a capsize.
Key learning points: Rigging, launching, landing, sailing in all directions, capsize recovery, safety information and basic sailing theory.
Our friendly instructors will be with you every step of the way, offering clear instruction, guidance and encouragement. The weekend will begin with an instructor sailing in the boat with you, but it is hoped by the end of the weekend you will be sailing on your own, with the instructor overseeing your development from a powerboat.
The Next Steps: This weekend is a perfect introduction to sailing. To progress your sailing further we recommend joining your local sailing club to help consolidate what you have learnt and then consider either the full Learn to Sail week or Basic Skills weekend.
